I woke up on a Saturday morning, still obsessed with trying to document that this splendid mid-century modern mailbox was around in the mid 1960s or late 1950s. Yes, I had proof it was around in 1969. But that was to close to the splendor of the 70s, and my fond memories as an adventurous ten year-oldwith a copper tone Schwinn Sting-Ray bike living in the Philippines!
I decided to visit a local antique shop, called Father & Son. Perhaps they had some old magazines lying around. As I dug through a stack of disheveled magazines, excitement built as I started to uncover House & Garden and Better Homes and Garden magazines dating from 1964 to 1969!
The March 1966 issue of Better Homes and Garden had a Spear Engineering ad for mailbox markers, where a modern mailbox was in the background and the Joroleman tunnel shaped design was an inset!
Similar ads in the 1964 and 1965 issues only had the Joroleman tunnel shaped mailbox.
I considered the day a success though, as I was able to root the design in the mid 60s.
